Medway Sonatas Race Report – 7th October 2023

Those of us who made it to the start line for the first of the late autumn series were treated to clear blue skies and an unseasonably pleasant 23°C. The wind was a force 4/5 south westerly with low tide at 12:45. It was a spinnaker run from the start line down to 15 briefly dropping for a short zigzag at 26 to 27. The only dramatic change in boat order was on the return trip down Long Reach. Watersong was in first place and tacked out, presumably to try and catch the tide. Bluetack was in second place and kept to the northern shore, when they finally tacked out they had overtaken Watersong. We were treated to views of PS Waverley as she paddled up and down the Medway, there did not appear to be any close run-ins with our fleet. The Sonata precession continued back home with a finishing order of Bluetack, Watersong, Screwloose, Musical Express and Skipper. Beer and cake were consumed on the benches outside the club under what can only be described as optimal weather conditions.
