Wayfarer Race Report ~ 9th September 2023

Pretty much the zenith of an oppressive unseasonal heatwave, the sea breeze stirred sufficiently for four competitors to make the startline.  Ubique set off as fast as an HMP Wandsworth inmate, leaving the Thomson twins (Richard and Brian) somewhat clueless and swopping places in their pursuit. Wildthing, as there recent want, showed real competitiveness, but slipped back on the second beat up Gillingham reach.  After 26 the course (75) unusually took us to Hoo 1 bouy which was now lying on its side through lack of water 😲😲.  A judicious mix of raised board and rudder, with lying the boat on its chine got us round. The hapless detectives continued to dispute right the finish, which was quite tight, but there was no stopping ubique who had  led start  to the end for a well deserved victory.

Alberto’s crew suffered from the Highway’s decision to shut all the main roads in Kent and sadly missed the race leaving Alberto to sail the course solo.
