Zest Youth on Mooring with Rib
Highlights from the Chief
Last week the weather threw some spectacularly different things at us. The windy high was on Wednesday (force 4-5 building from the Southwest). This was during the introduction to Medway Yacht Club and the first of the Level 1 Start Sailing sessions for the club’s partner the Royal Engineers. Interactive land sessions were necessary in a rare time training on the water couldn’t happen due to conditions. However, one RS Zest was launched with me aboard to enable some demos of reach to reach sailing and tacking. This was as the group watched from the pontoon. I had 3 reefs in the sail and the boat was zooming along with water spraying out from the bow wave. The comment from the RSME when back ashore was that looked fun. Yep!
Adult own boat keelboat private tuitions on Saturday started in force zero, but the breeze gradually filled in and the sun stayed out for essentially “summer sailing”.  Complete contrast to Sunday with drizzle and light airs from the east. No spirits dampened with the youth who set off in their sailing sessions divided into two groups. The toppers and optimists did some sail setting and boat comparison exercises and the more skilled sailors rose to the opportunity to do some sail demos. The RS Zest group had fun too with reach to reach sailing with someone aboard to help install confidence. We also gave a cheery hello to the yacht racers Freya as they went past, with smiles received back from the Freya crew. Thanks.Regular sail training:
Private tuitions: any day
Adult sail training: Saturday morning
Youth sail training: Sunday morning

Join The HandleBards at Medway Yacht Club for a bicycle-powered, laugh-out-loud production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

Duke Orsino is in love with Lady Olivia, but she won’t have anything to do with suitors. Viola is shipwrecked and believes her twin brother, Sebastian, to be dead. Meanwhile, a bunch of Olivia’s servants plot to make a fool out of her pompous butler, Malvolio. There’s drunkenness, frivolity and cross-dressing a plenty.

This is an outdoor production, so please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on and dress for the weather!
