Cdre. Catherine Gore’s Speech to Steve Porter’s Retirement

Steve

For 26 years you dedicated every day to helping members fulfil what they wished from their membership, launching and recovering boats and helping the club prepare for racing and cruising. You have been on hand to support members with their engine problems, winter and summer maintenance and to ensure the Club boats were ready for events. I have fond memories of you helping me when I was Sailing Secretary and you always had the ability to make me laugh but we both agreed that life would be so much easier if the club didn’t have any members.

You always found a way to solve an issue, including launching a boat to please a member even when there was snow on the ground making the hard very slippery.

The Club has benefitted greatly from the experience you gained working at other clubs prior to starting at MYC, as well as your time working in the Royal Navy especially on HMS Britannia. Many stories from these days have been shared over a pint at the Bar!

The club has seen many changes throughout your working years but the most notable was your persuasion and the introduction of the Wise Hoist. A very valuable piece of kit! We are truly grateful for the time and energy you have given.

Members have their own stories and reasons to be grateful to you for your loyalty to the Club and hopefully this book shares some of those special memories.

Steve, we wish you all the very best with your new way of life, we hope that retirement allows you to spend quality time with your family and you can make time to sail exploring new coasts.

Please accept this cheque as a sign of gratitude
