The Tuesday Group – Cruising in Company

Within MYC there is a group of cruiser sailors fondly known as the Tuesday Group. The Tuesday Group sail every Tuesday during the club sailing season and it is all about relaxed sailing in company and socialising.

The Tuesday Group meet outside the club office at 08.30 hrs on Tuesdays and a Trot boat service is provided by the Group, to and from your boat.

The usual plan is to sail down river and moor in rafts and try to put the world to rights over lunch and the odd glass of wine and then return to the club.

The Tuesday Group is open to any member of MYC who just wishes to go for a gentle sail and socialise. Ideal for people who have little experience and wish to learn more about cruiser sailing in our river and its backwaters with a group skipper. As well as any cruiser skipper and crew on their own boat who may feel more comfortable sailing in company to gain experience. Presently we have 19 regular skippers with boats between 26ft to 35ft and there are usually at least 6 to 8 or more boats participating each week with space for crew.

Some of our skippers have tens of years experience on the river and will take you into backwaters that you would probably not venture into on your own.

The Tuesday Group is a year long activity with meetings for lunch during the winter in the Club House where assistance can be offered to anyone who has any sort of problem with their winter maintenance or refit. The year is finalised with a Christmas lunch at the Club catered for by our excellent galley staff.

You are very welcome to join us, to participate please contact the below or just turn up on Tuesday with buoyancy jacket and lunch and we will find you a place on a boat;

The history of the Tuesday Group goes back to the days when the club maintained it’s own moorings and volunteers manned two barges with diesel driven winches to overhaul the ground chains and risers each winter, a dangerous job which we are no longer allowed to do under Health and Safety guidelines. Now we are the first call from the Bosun when he needs help with largish club maintenance jobs on waterside projects, so you can get your hands dirty as well if you wish.
