Sonata Spring Series Race 2 – A Battle on the Medway

The second race of the Sonata Spring Series at Medway Yacht Club delivered drama, adrenaline, and a masterclass in seizing fleeting opportunities. The wind, fickle as ever, tested the fleets’ mettle, but it was the sheer nerve of the crews that made today one for the books.

The most heart-stopping moment came when Skipper suffered a terrifying broach, their mainsail whipping out of control, forcing an urgent scramble on deck. With split-second reflexes, BlueTack executed a flawless evasive manoeuvre, steering clear of disaster by mere inches—precision sailing at its finest.

Meanwhile, fortune smiled on Screwloose as they reached the treacherous Heartbreak Reach. Just when the shifting wind looked like they were only making 4th place, a miracle lift (or skill?) pushed Screwloose forward turning peril into triumph over BlueTack.

But today wasn’t just about the veterans—it was a day for new blood. Red Dwarf, Cry Havoc, Skipper, and BD2 saw fresh crew members baptized by the Medway’s unpredictable waters, learning fast that Sonata racing waits for no one. Their trial by wind and wave will serve them well in the races to come.

One last note, Watersong—heroes in their own right—managed to remember their pencils this time and signed on correctly, sparing the race committee any unnecessary headaches.

As the sun dipped low, the fleet returned to shore, bruised by the wind but victorious in spirit. If this race proved anything, it’s that the Sonata Spring Series is far from predictable. Strap in for the next showdown—it’s bound to be another rollercoaster ride.
