Lesley Wright

With great sadness the Flag Officers regret to inform you that Lesley Wright, wife of Graham and mother of Victoria, passed away peacefully at home on 19th February.

Lesley had been a member of Medway Yacht Club for nearly 50 years and an active member of both Squib and Sonata fleets many years ago. Further afield Lesley enjoyed racing and cruising offshore and in more recent years sailing on ‘Lycka’ on the East Coast and to channel ports. Lesley also sat on committees and assisted with the Cadet Class.

Her funeral will be a private family affair.

A service of thanksgiving will be held at 12:30 on Wednesday 1st April at St Philip & St James Church, Upnor, Rochester, ME2 4UX, which members are invited to attend. This will be followed by her wake at the club.

This is a ‘Celebration of Life’ and appropriate dress is encouraged.

‘H’ Long

It is with great sadness that we let you know of the passing of Helier ‘H’ Long on Wednesday 4^th February.

H joined MYC in 1968, initially sailing Hornets and Fireballs. He spent many happy years sailing Serendipity and then Huffler. He loved sailing with the Tuesday group and going on the annual East Coast trip.

Together with his wife Josie, they made many lifelong friends at the Club.

His funeral will be on Friday 6^th March at 10am at Thames View Crematorium, with the wake at MYC from 11:30. Anyone wishing to attend please email chantal@withey.uk (for catering purposes)

H never liked wearing a suit & tie so smart/casual will be the order of the day at his funeral.

David Townshend

It is with great sadness that the Flag Officers regret to inform you that David Townshend, Commodore 1993 – 1994 and husband of Judy, passed away due to ill health on the 29th January 2026.

David and his family have had a long and highly regarded association with MYC. Many will remember Roy his father as Commodore 1973 – 1974, and Marguerite his mother for many years as a race angel.

David himself had great success as a sailor representing us regionally, nationally as well as on home waters.

His funeral will take place at:
3pm on Wednesday 25th February at

John Roberts

It is with great sadness that the Flag Officers regret to inform you that John Roberts, owner of Hunter Channel 31 Jacstar and member of Medway Yacht Club since 1957, passed away on 18^th December 2025.

His funeral will take place at 11am on Thursday 22^nd January 2026 at The Annunciation Church, 42 High Street, Chislehurst, BR7 5AQ.

This will be followed by his wake at Sundridge Park Golf Club, Garden Road, Bromley, BR1 3NE.
