13th November 2021: RYA Marine Radio SRC Course & Exam
A course and exam for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.
Medway Yacht Club will run this course in the club’s library and conference room. A radio set will be provided 1 between 2. Also included in the course price is the RYA VHF handbook which will need to be collected from the club office before the course to do some prior reading.
The day’s training is from 9am – 4pm. There is an exam of two parts (written and verbal) which is assessed after the course on the same day. Both exams total approximately an hour, though candidates may complete at different times. The exam part of the day will be finished the latest 6:30pm. The cost of the exam is not included in the course. It is £60 and is paid directly to the RYA. You will be guided through exam and payment on the day.
