Racing Gets off to a Great Start

‘Wow! What a great start to the season today has been. Sadly the proposed windward / leeward racing was cancelled by matters out of the clubs hands but a shorter round the cans race from the club line was scheduled.

A chilly but bright easterly breeze greeted sailors. We welcomed new members with 3 Musto Skiffs and an RS 800 and they hope to grow their fleet at MYC this year. We also had a couple of Lasers join the dinghy fleet.

Courses chosen and the fleets were off on a hard foul tide beat down to Gillingham and buoy 23. A few loops in Gillingham, and between the forts for the faster fleets, and spinnakers were starting to appear on the corner – what a spectacular sight!

First boat home was Dragon Taniwha closely followed by the rest of the Dragon fleet. In the Sonata fleet White Noise were first boat home despite a questionable start! In the Wayfarers our Commodore started the season back to winning ways in Muffin closely followed by Moonshine. In the Squibs Monkey Business won the first race of the series. Our new Musto Skiff fleet had a great race and looked fantastic flying back to the club and keeping those machines upright!!

A Welcoming beer or cup of tea greeted sailors off the water along with chatter about today’s racing and plans for the season ahead.’
