Sailing News – February

Medway Yacht Club is pleased to announce plans to run a full sailing season in 2021. As long as Covid restrictions are sufficiently eased we intend to start Saturday Racing on 10th April with the Cruisers starting their Spring Series on Sunday 2nd May.

May 28th to 31st Medway Keelboat Regatta. Plans are well advanced for this event. We are planning a full schedule of races with longer races into the Cruisers and short sharp Windward Leeward races in the Medway for the One Designs. A full social program is planned.  Obviously there is still a degree of uncertainty over the Covid situation at this stage so plans may be subject to change so keep an eye on this web site for up to date news. June 19th Medway Marathon. Our annual long distance race for keelboats and dinghies under 30 feet in length. A race the length and breadth of the River Medway and creeks using the many channels buoys as well as specially laid marks in the various creeks used. Again this is and open event so if you want to try something truly unique come and join us. Entry will be available on the web sote

August 5th to 8th Wayfarer National and European Championships. Our largest one design fleet are hosting their 2021 championship and expecting up to 100 entries from all over the UK and Europe. Racing will be in the Medway allowing for full championship standard courses from our dedicated Committee boat,

Don’t think its all racing, the cruising section are planning a number of organised cruises during 2021 at a more leisurely rate. June and July should see the cruisers heading for the South Coast while August will see them heading up t he East Coast as far as Lowestoft taking in the Suffolk and Essex Rivers on the way back. Obviously with everything cruising the exact dates and venues are flexible and dependant on weather conditions. See the Cruiser section of the web site or the regular news letter for more information.
