Wayfarers have been racing at the Medway Yacht Club for longer than most of us can remember. We currently have 34 boats and probably one the largest fleets regularly racing and cruising in the UK. We race on both Saturdays and Sundays and have our own fleet start from the club line on both days. The standard of racing is competitive, with several of our helms nationally ranked. Our fleet caters for a wide range of abilities and to that end we hold on-the-water training sessions within the fleet to encourage and improve some of the newer crews. Many of our members find these sessions of great benefit and as a consequence the standard continues to rise. As well as the racing, our cruisers enjoy the relatively safe waters and attractive setting of the River Medway. For 2006 the class has included a number of cruising events in the programme, to encourage further the cruising activities amongst all classes and other clubs. On the social side, the Wayfarer fleet is very gregarious, and all enjoy the various events we put on at the club. The Wayfarer class holds well attended pre-season and end-of-season social events, together with river-side barbecues in the summer. Details of how to contact us are on the Medway Yacht Club Home Page or you can email us or just drop in - we’d like to see you. Richard Stone MYC Wayfarer Class Captain |
