Boat on Hoist

The Facilities at Medway are second to none and comprise of the following:-

Clubhouse, Patio and Changing Rooms.

The Clubhouse and Patio enjoy panoramic views of the River Medway and can cater for functions up to 90 people this can be increased during the summer months with additional room being made on the Patio with  a Marquee. Our catering facilities can provide breakfast, lunch, BBQ, suppers and fine dining for that special occasion and Members Parties. Our Steward keeps a well stocked bar with Master Brew, Fosters, Guinness, Cider, Asahi lager as well as Guest beers. We also carry a comprehensive stock of wines.

Scrubbing Posts, Travel Hoist & Scrubbing Trolleys.

The club has long been envied by other clubs for its scrubbing facilities. We have a motorised scrubbing trolley that runs on a railway track and can be used from approximately half tide with 1 hour allocated slots, this is a member operated facility and can accommodate boats up to 9 tons. Bookings for the scrubbing trolley can be made by phone during office hours, after which the booking forms are transferred to the clubhouse, so always accessible. The club also has a 14ton Wise Travelhoist that is operated by the Yard Staff and can be booked for a lift and hold for scrubbing, but is mainly used for transporting from the water to the car park for winter lay-up. We also have static scrubbing piles for the heavier boats that are over 9 tons or if you need more than a hour. A pressure washer completes the usefulness of these facilities.

All-Tide Pontoon.

We have recently extended our pontoon to allow 2+Metres at the lowest tides, with an extended hammerhead that can now accommodate up to 7 boats, we have left the inner finger pontoons for lesser draught boats and the club launches. When the tide is in you no longer have to go to the end of the pontoon to launch your tender as we have launching ramps at several points along the pontoons length. There is water at the head of the pontoon but no electric.

Static Hoist & Mast Hoists.

We also have a static hoist that has a lifting capacity of 3 tons, this is used mainly by our Dragon & Sonata fleets for transferring from the scrubbing trolley to their road trailers. This facility is for member use but the Boson or his staff will give tuition if required. We now have 3 mast hoists with the latest addition being suitable for removing masts from cruisers whilst still in the Wise Travelhoist and will be operated by the Bosons team with the other two for member use.

Car Park and Winter Berthing Area.

Unlike a lot of clubs, we have a large car park which also doubles as a laying-up area in the winter for 150+ keelboats, with water and electric points available. Having our own onsite car park allows members cars to be accommodated while away on a cruising holiday or just away for the weekend. The car park like the rest of the grounds of the club are flood-lit during the hours of darkness.

Dinghy and Tender Park & Launching.

Our dinghy and tender parking areas are as near to the hard and pontoon as possible, We also have a dinghy winch which is mainly used to recover our large Wayfarer Fleet. We have two, mostly concrete ramps with one having wooden slates at the low water end, which are power washed on a regular basis.

Office and The Club Library.

Our Club Secretary and admin staff operate from the club office, the office is open Monday to Saturday 09.00 to 16.30, the staff will be able to answer questions on membership, club rules, etc.  They will be able to contact a Flag Officer if they feel it necessary. The clubs library probably has the largest collection of marine books in the southeast, which are available to members during office hours. New books are purchased regularly and some video's are also kept.

Club Boats.

The club runs a trot-boat service at weekends throughout the season and also during Regatta’s and Class Open meetings. We also have RIB’S for rescue duties and 2 other displacement boats, with 2 small RIB’s for use with the Cadet and Oppie training.

Boson and his staff.

Our Bosun and his team are very helpful and can suggest solutions to most problems when they occur. Their knowledge of local conditions and tides are second to none and if they cannot sort your problem they will be able to suggest someone who can.

For Club Members there is not a hire charge but you will be expected to pay for guests that do not turn up on the day, after final numbers have been given.

The picture is the club set up for a wedding reception held at the club recently.

Or for smaller parties up to say 20 you might want to consider asking to use the Clubs Library.

This can be set up with two of the round tables that can seat up 10 on each. This room is ideal for a buffet type party.

Comment by a member that used the Library for a party recently:- Two round table set to seat 14 adults and 5 children. The space was completely  right for our numbers  and so right for the occasion. To get the family together in one place was a joy. Informal  — as I like it. The smokers drifted out during the meal without embarrassment to enjoy the view and where could you find better? The children didn’t feel cooped up and were in and out and happy

To use either of these facilities you should first contact the Club Secretary to ensure availability for the date you require and complete a booking form.
