31 December will see the retirement of Mrs Susan Watson as Club Secretary after 16 years of outstanding service to the club, we thank Sue for all her hard work and wish her and husband Peter a long and happy retirement. Sue and Peter will remain club members and are looking forward to spending more time on their boat.
4 January 2016 Ms Victoria Bavin (Vicky) will join MYC as Club Secretary and Business Manager. Vicky joins us after 18 years at the Arethusa Venture Centre where she held the position of Business and Finance Manager a role which encompassed many similar responsibilities to those required at MYC. Vicky is a keen equestrian and a member of horse racing syndicate and can occasionally be found afloat at MYC on partner Tim’s Bavaria 33 Astral.
The change in title with the addition of Business Manager reflects the expansion of the role. Vicky will assume the responsibilities of Club Secretary and be looking after the office team and with her strong background in finance will be able to provide assistance and backup to our bookkeeper. Vicky will also manage the “business” activities of the club with a remit to promote the club and develop the use of its facilities in times of low member usage.
During the recruitment process the Flag Officers received a number of messages of support for Steve the Bosun and chatting with Steve he gave us a lot to think about. We are convinced that he has the ideas and capabilities to contribute towards the growth and continuing success of the club. To capitalise on the skills and enthusiasm of our staff and ensure that they have a process by which their ideas are given appropriate consideration a slightly more formalised management structure will be implemented. Vicky, Steve and Neil Club Steward will meet formally with the Flag Officers on a regular monthly basis in what will be termed the Senior Management Team (SMT). The SMT will then report to the Management Committee.
